The USS Valiant had arrived at Starbase 12 three hours ago for resupply, to drop off and pick up new transfers. One of the people dropped off was Lieutenant Abraham Winters. Being about business before anything else, the Chief Security Officer checked into Proteus and made his way to the Captain's office. Typically, the security office would have been his first stop. But, being this was his first time, as head of security and not the second guy in charge. Abraham wants to make meeting the Commanding Officer the priority. Arriving at the office, he pressed the chime.

The transition of command was completed with Captain James Collingwood and Lieutenant Commander Iris Foster's transfer to Captain Threlox's previous ship, the Aryabhata, where he served as her Executive Officer for the past two years. The majority of the Proteus' senior staff transferred off the Proteus, destined for better opportunities in Starfleet. It was a large fleet with personnel across the vastness of known and unknown space.

The chime rang at the front door. He looked over from his access terminal to the door, "Enter."

The door opened as Winters passed through. "Captain, Lieutenant Abraham Winters reporting for duty."

"Please treat yourself to something to drink from the replicator and have a seat, I'll be with you in a moment, Lieutenant." Captain Threlox looked from his terminal briefly before returning to his paperwork.

Moving to the replicator, he decided on sweet tea and returned to the seat directly in front of the desk. Sitting down, Winters sipped the tea. It wasn't anywhere like the tea he grew up on. Nonetheless, it was good.

The Captain's focus turned from his terminal to his incoming Chief of Security Officer. He had finished rereading Lieutenant Winter's letter of recommendation from his previous Valiant's XO Commander Savral th'Kelos's letter of recommendation attached to his personnel service dossier, "I was in the middle of rereading your previous XO's reference letter."

"Hopefully all good," the Lieutenant joked. "But on a serious note. Commander th'Kelos opinion means a lot to me. I learned quite a bit under his leadership."

"He was remarkably thorough," Threlox responded.

Sitting back in his seat, Abraham sipped his drink. He was definitely eager hear if the Captain was going to elaborate more or leave it at that. "That sounds like him, alright."

"Commander th'Kelos spoke highly about your tactical abilities and command presence during your posting aboard the Valiant. While we aren't patrolling the neutral zone, our focus is on exploration, discovery, and first contact assignments. I need someone capable on the bridge when we find ourselves under fire. I trust you to follow orders, but I also expect you to conduct threat assessments and be able to bring up your points without being contrarian."

"That definitely sums up my career perfectly," Winters responded. "One of the reasons that I was eager for this assignment was primarily due to the focus on exploration. I'm great with threat assessments and defending the crew. But I also want to learn more about the other side of things."

Threlox nodded his head, "Welcome aboard the Proteus, Lieutenant. You're dismissed."

"Thank you, Sir."
